[service tier(s)] fiber

We had put in a request to be upgraded to fiber, 10 days ago. They didn't say "no", only that they'd call us back with answers and a scheduled date. But they haven't yet. Meanwhile, road crews appear to be burying something resembling fiber cables all over town. At closest point, about 0.5 miles from our house. I thought it was pretty likely we can get ftth or at least fttn. We really need a faster internet. It would be nice to stay with CCI, but if they can't give us at least 50mbits then we'll be forced to look elsewhere. On friday I tried calling them back. At first their phones weren't ringing at all. Later that day, there was a recorded message saying their phones weren't working due to a system failure. And I thought "that's ironic". Today there was a different recorded message saying they were too busy to take any calls and ending my call without even offering to have me wait on hold. Which kind of makes fiber seem less likely :(

[connectivity] Slow download speeds today, 24-Jul-2020

Very strange that I have the FTH, and downloads are 2Mbps and uploads are 25Mbps. Thru a VPN I can't get some work pages to finish loading. I've tried a speed test CCI points me to on a Portland ME server, and I get the expected speeds ~50/25. But speakeasy.net NY server and speedtest.net show the download issue. Is anyone else seeing issues? I called, but gave up. I'll fire up my phone hotspot so I can work today!

Port 80

It appears CCI has begun blocking port 80 inbound? Static IP. Appears to be routed through Burlington or Norther NH. No other ports appear to be blocked. Anyone else seeing this? Not a major problem except it breaks letsencrypt certbot. So no more certs for me until I find a work around for this. **EDIT** Turns out this is the router they replaced a month ago. Remote management has port 80 pinned. Just have to figure out how to stop that now.

[availability] Consolidated DSL in Readsboro, VT: Cannot get committments

Our location in Readsboro has been served by Fairpoint, then Consolidated for quite a few years. We get about 10/0.8 from our supposed 12/1 DSL Service. That has been pretty decent and reliable. However, we need faster service. Consolidated offered 20/2 bonded DSL Service. Great! I told them, please put another phone line in with a second Bonded line, and I'll aggregate for 40/4 service (thinking I'll get about 30/2.5, which is enough for what we want to do.) At first, Consolidated said they could upgrade the existing line right away. Due to bad weather, this upgrade was rescheduled twice. However, when I called them to reschedule, they said they could not tell me WHEN the installation could occur until the end of January 2020, due to lack of infrastructure lines. However, ANY time a phone line is placed into service, it is TWO PAIR! So the infrastructure for Bonded DSL is there! Of course, when I asked about the second line, I got the same runaround. The sales rep was very rude, and essentially implied "we are the only game in town." We are technologists, and know IP and RF. I know there is lit, Internet fiber within three miles of our location. I'd love to find someone with fiber who I could connect some Ubiquiti radios to. Our location at 2300' just outside Readsboro. Anyone who could help with Consolidated or a fiber provider would be appreciated.

[connectivity] Connection issue

My internet has been down for days. Seems to be a very strange issue. I have an assigned WAN IP and the ASUS router shows it is connected. Only thing that seem broken is WAN Lease time = Renewing, Lease expires = Expired Called support, the say there is an issue in my area, but don't know if the is my problem? Call back in a few hours if it is still down. I can ping 8.8.8.8, but no web pages load Seems like a DNS issue, but I tried the defaults, 9.9.9.9 and 8.8.8.8 Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Steve

[speed/latency] Gigabit Fiber Speed / Southern NH

I recently had CC fiber installed in Southern NH and was not seeing speeds above 300/300 Mpbs. CC came out and took me off/put me back on the circuit which made things a bit better, sometimes getting 500/500. The tech that came out told me that there is an known issue where customers aren't getting close to Gigabit speeds and they don't know why (saying also that they use the same equipment as Verizon, it only effects certain areas, they can't identify root cause). He said pretty much said as long as I'm getting 500/500, that's really the best I can expect. Anyone else experiencing a similar issue with fiber speed in Southern NH?

Can't access security camera via internet

I have always been able to access my Sharx camera from offsite, but I got a new Comtrend AR-5319 modem from CC recently and cannot seem to get the port forwarding to work. When I called, the agent said he could not understand what I was asking about, and then he checked with his boss and tried to tell me that it is impossible to access from offsite. This seems ridiculous. When onsite, I can log onto the modem, reserve a static IP address for the camera (which I don't think I had to do previously), set up port forwarding to 8150 as before. But then it doesn't connect from offsite. I can't get to the site. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm not an IT person, but I'm reasonably proficient.

I assume everyone who lives in Mason NH already knows this, but in case you don't. Mason is being wired for internet fiber, under a federal program. I helped a friend installed a pull string in their underground conduit used for existing copper telephone line. https://masonnh.us/category/broadband/ https://www.consolidated.com/residential/internet/new-hampshire/mason-fiber I'm happy for them but jealous we won't have it in Milford. /tom

"Network Care Plus Wireless Program" fee

I'm considering Consolidated FTTP as an alternative to Comcast (still have fiber drop to the house from Verizon days here in Nashua), and am curious if other Consolidated customers are able to avoid the $12/month "Network Care Plus Wireless Program" fee - which according to their Web site *appears* to be a mandatory fee for rental of their wireless router even if you provide your own equipment. The FCC has banned these types of fees (law was deferred during COVID, supposedly will go into effect on 12/20/2020), so I'm curious as to what other Consolidated customers using their own equipment are experiencing.

bypass gigabit fiber gateway

Hello, I currently have a setup like this... ONT --> Ethernet --> Zyxel gateway (bridged) --> UDM-Pro router. I'd like to remove the gateway from the equation and go direct like this ... ONT --> Ethernet --> UDM-Pro router. Is this possible with Consolidated Communications? If so, how can I achieve this? Thank you.

Wifi maintenance fee removal?

Has anyone been successful in getting the wifi maintenance fee removed on their Gigabit internet plan? I called to acquire about having this removed since I have it bypassed and have my ONT to ethernet line going directly into my router. They denied my request to have it removed because 1) the fee is not an equipment rental fee but a "maintenance" fee to the line, everything that relates to internet.. and 2) removing it will lose my internet promotion... When I asked if I could remove the fee if I forego promotion, they hesitated and didn't sound confident it could be removed either... so it seems like it is a "fee" that is permanent and required... :/

Since sunday afternoon our CC pots landline phone has gone from lots of scam calls every day, to None. I don’t think they would voluntarily quit trying. Has this happened for any other Consolidated customers?

DSL upgrade horror story

My Internet speed upgrade has been resolved after 2.5 days of outage. I had requested an upgrade from 25Mb to 80Mb. It was supposed to be a "flip a switch thing" no equipment changes. On Thursday (3/11) when it took effect, my service stopped altogether at 8:45 AM. I rebooted several times before calling. Tech Support went through the usual "reboot your modem" routine. No success, so they scheduled a field tech, confirmed my address, phone number and asked if Covid health questions. Friday: Around lunchtime I was curious if my support ticket was active so I call to check. They claimed there was no contact number so the field tech wasn't coming out. Recall that I had confirmed my address and phone the day before. They said they'd send a tech for real this time, but not till on Sunday. Saturday morning: I get so frustrated by the lack of competent phone support and tired of waiting till Sunday for a field tech that I scour the Internet for answers. I find that my service most likely changed from ADSL to VDSL to accommodate the speed that I'd requested and that it required reconfiguring the modem. I reset the modem to factory defaults and went through the setup wizard entering my PPPoE credentials and everything started working. I called tech support and had them cancel the field tech. Saturday afternoon: I get a robot phone call confirming the field tech appointment for Sunday but also allowing me to cancel. I cancel the field tech once more. Sunday: Field Tech calls... "Hey, I'm at the phone box, checking your line and it looks good, no errors. I'll be at your house in a few minutes." I tell him thanks but that it's been resolved. If only the phone support people had thought of having me reconfigure the modem. I told them each call that I had my speed increased and that there had been no changes to the equipment or settings in my house. The information should be in their system alerting them to what work had been performed on their end. I've worked in the tech field for decades and dealt with many support people. This incident moved into my top 10 worst support experiences.

[availability] Fiber is coming

I'm in Katy TX and Consolidated are currently burying fiber to replace their ADSL copper home connections. I will be signing up for a FTTH connection and would like to know how best to prepare for that. I guess they will install an ONT in a box on my outside wall? Does this box need power? Any typical manufacturer/model for the ONT? What data connections come from it? Do I just need a single cat6/RJ45 cable from the ONT to the input of my gigabit router? Are there any additional connections required to the ONT for CCiTV, alarm, phone, anything else? Appreciate any info.....Thanks

Fiber coming to Kingston NH

Over the past few weeks have seen large rolls of wire/cable/whatever at various spots around town. Saw a few trucks the last week-10 days but nothing CC, Xfinity just some company name I didn't recognize. Then today we get a flyer in the mail saying CC fiber is coming to Kingston and to pre-register on CC's site. Finally some competition to Xfinity. Paying almost $100/mo just for 450/mbps internet now. CC's site says they are in Phase 3-Splicing. sam
